Mayotte

An overseas department of France since 2011, the Indian Ocean archipelago of Mayotte is situated to the east of the African continent, between Madagascar and Mozambique. Grande-Terre (or Mahoré, as it’s sometimes called) is the largest island – measuring approximately 24 miles long by 14 miles wide – and it’s home to around 200,000 people, many of whom live in Mamoudzou, the capital.

The only course in the country is found at Golf Club Ylangs, formed in 1998 when nine fairways were carved through an old ylang-ylang plantation in Combani, a couple of miles to the east of Tsingoni. Extending to just over 2,400 yards, the course features two different tee positions at every hole, which allows a full 18-hole round to be played on the nine oiled-sand browns.
