David Oliver

I am a single figure golfer (lowest 5.5!) whose home club is the Royal Jersey Golf Club. Situated in Jersey, playing the top courses is challenging as more travel is required. Played 80 of current Top 100 GB&I list. Favourite type of course are links but have thoroughly enjoyed playing 20+ of the top heathland courses in England (Surrey / Dorset / Yorkshire / Notts & Lincs) over last few years. I also admire the minimalist designs of Coore & Crenshaw and the natural scruffy look that Doak and McLay Kidd favour. My favourite resort is Bandon and my future favourite resort may well be Streamsong (I haven’t played the Black course yet, but Blue is epic and Red not far behind). Top courses played in no particular order are Chambers Bay, Pebble Beach, Tobacco Road, Muirfield, Oitavos Dunes, Carne, Les Bordes, Birkdale, Old Head, Doonbeg, Royal County Down, Pacific Dunes and TPC Sawgrass). I am passionate about rankings and believe that private / exclusive courses should not be included in any ranking as they struggle significantly to be objective ie the only people who play are members and extremely fortunate guests - so who is going to give a negative review!). Also, how “useful” is yet another stellar review of Pine Valley, Cypress Point, Augusta etc to the 99.9% of golfers? My next planned trip is to Machrihanish.

Beautiful golf course, which in my view, as a guide is a touch better the 3Ws and they are seriously good courses. The par of 68 is tough with just the one par 5. As a co...

Start is gentle, which is good and holes 2 and 3 are possibly the least scenic on the course. 4 is a super par 3, uphill and tough to hold the green. The back 9 is better...

Having played the 3 Ws recently, my order of preference is West Hill, Worplesdon and Woking. My reasoning is that there at least 6 holes on Woking that have more of a tre...
