St Andrews Devlin course is renamed as the Kittocks course & redesigned by Gary Stephenson
St Andrews, Scotland: The Fairmont St Andrews opened the Kittocks Course on 1st October. Kittocks, formerly known as the Devlin Course, was redesigned by Scottsdale, Ariz.-based architect Gary Stephenson.
The work was one of several upgrades to the 520-acre coastal resort, which is spending 13 million pounds on improvements. Other changes include: renovation of the Torrance Course, which is scheduled to reopen in summer 2009; a new spa and sports bar; and upgrades to hotel rooms.
On the Kittocks project, Stephenson took two holes from the original Torrance layout; the former 16th and 17th holes on Torrance will be, respectively, Nos. 18 and 17 on Kittocks. (The Torrance will adopt the third and fourth holes from the old Devlin layout.) Stephenson also repositioned tees, altered bunkering and built new green complexes.
