Top 20 Golf Courses in Northern Ireland 2011

There are around 100 golf courses in Northern Ireland that serve a population of less than two million people, so you’ll generally find good value and few queues, even on the first tees of the country’s greatest courses.

We’ve ranked the Top 20 courses in Northern Ireland for a number of years and unsurprisingly Lough Erne is the highest new entry in our 2011 list, straight in at No.5. Warrenpoint also makes its debut at 20th but there is little change at the top nor is there much movement elsewhere in the table.

A fair amount of criticism has been levelled at us for giving a coveted ranking spot to the 9-hole Bann course at Castlerock. But, even though the Bann course has dropped three places, we think it’s an absolute blast. In the words of Dave McGill from Ohio: “Fun to play! It’s a great test of skill and excellent as warm up to the mighty Mussenden Links. Do not keep score and just enjoy the rolling terrain and quirky design.”

Ardglass, our highest climber (up five places), continues to receive excellent reviews: “Raw, real golf… many memorable and spectacular holes… value for money is outstanding… absolutely loved it.” Combine Ardglass with Royal County Down and enjoy the ride.
