John O'Gaunt (Carthagena)

8th Bedfordshire - Best in Area

The Carthagena is the 2nd course at John O’Gaunt Golf Club but its signature 16th is memorable. The split fairway plunges down to a double-tiered green surrounded by trees and bunkers. F.W. Hawtree laid out the first nine in the 1960s and his son Martin fashioned the second nine in the 1970s.

Kings Norton Golf Club members have the option of playing on three different 9-hole loops, which are each colour-coded – Blue, Red & Yellow. The three loops pair up to create the Weatheroak (Blue & Red), Brockhill (Yellow & Blue) and Wythall (Red & Yellow) courses, each of which ends with a par five.

The impressive 36-hole facility at Golf du Prieuré was designed by Fred W. Hawtree in the mid-1960s. The Ouest is longer and more challenging than the Est course therefore it’s regarded as the premier 18-hole layout at a splendid parkland amenity.
