Royal Porthcawl Golf Club is located off the beaten track, east of Swansea and west of Cardiff. Despite being the highest ranked course in Wales, it remains relatively unknown.
Founded in 1888, Royal Winchester Golf Club is the fourth oldest golf club in Hampshire and there are some attractive holes, especially on J.H. Taylor’s strong and engaging outward nine.

The Dyke Golf Club was formed in 1906, but the layout was destroyed by practicing tanks and was rebuilt after the war by Fred G. Hawtree and his son Fred W. Frank Pennink described it as “undoubtedly the best of the courses in the Brighton orbit”.
Welwyn Garden City Golf Club is where Nick Faldo learnt his trade as a youngster and the golf course is a tricky, tight layout that undulates through delightful parkland.
Established in 1890, West Herts Golf Club is one of Hertfordshire’s oldest clubs. According to Bernard Darwin, “a fine day at Cassiobury comes within measurable distance of heaven”.
The design of the heathland course at York Golf Club is attributed to five-time Open Champion J.H. Taylor. Measuring 6,290 yards from the back tees, the standard scratch score for the layout matches the par of 70.
