You’ll find the small seaside resort of Abersoch on the south east coast of the Llŷn Peninsula where it’s a well-known spot for water sports enthusiasts to indulge in their passion for sailing, windsurfing and a variety of other aquatic activities.
What many visitors to this part of the Gwynedd region might not appreciate is that Abersoch also boasts a terrific little golf course that dates all the way back to 1908, when the great Harry Vardon pegged out the original holes.
The modern day course extends to a modest 5,847 yards with holes 1 to 12 and the closing par three 18th all being fast-running links holes, with the five remaining fairways more parkland in nature.
Peter Alliss thinks the 440-yard 11th (“Tan y Bwlch”) is one of the best par four links holes that he’s ever played. Nevertheless, many believe the most memorable hole at Abersoch to be “Fron Grin,” the 246-yard downhill 3rd, where stunning views across the bay to the Snowdonia Mountains enhance the beauty of a wonderful par three.
