Adare Manor Golf Club

Adare Manor is set in more than 800 acres of stunning formal gardens and parkland. The manor house built in the 18th century situated along the River Maigue, is an architectural masterpiece with the towers, turrets, and other apexes. It was the ancestral residence of the Earls Dunraven. It's now an extravagant, high-end hotel.

Adare's first course was opened for play in the year 1995. It was created by Robert Trent Jones Snr. It was an iconic Trent Jones course with a length of 7,453 yards from the back Tees and less than 5,082 yards starting from the forward tees. The course was a perfect example of traits of the Trent Jones style including cloverleaf bunkers and American-style mounding and plenty of water. The result was incredibly difficult and enjoyable, but also fairly reliable despite myriad nature features as well as dangers like the magnificent trees as well as the River Maigue, which meanders effortlessly through the course.

The course has hosted a range of national championships that are important which include the Irish Seniors Open, held at the course for three consecutive seasons beginning in 2002. In 2003, the Irish PGA Championship was also held in Adare the year 2003 where Paul McGinley emerged victorious. Two events of the Irish Open were also contested in 2007 and 2008 which saw Padraig Harrington as well as Richard Finch winning these events.

The Irish Open put the dashing and elegant Adare Manorfirmly on the map, and in the process established Adare's status in the top ten top track in Ireland. However, the course began to fall in the rankings of golf courses, and became a pleasant and challenging resort course.

In the year 2015, Irish businessman and racehorse owner J. P. McManus purchased Adare Manor for EUR30 million. He immediately began on a revamping program. The report said that the owner of the property was in the hope of bringing to the Irish Open to Adare and with the long-term goal of getting the Ryder Cup back to Ireland in 2026.

The golf course's reconstruction began in March of 2016 under Tom Fazio's direction the architect's remarks were that: "Most golfers will never ever have a course similar to this golf course. It is as beautiful and challenging as every golf course anywhere else in Ireland. It will be an outstanding course in Europe and it, with it's Adare Manor house and estate as its backdrop, it is one of the most beautiful places to stay and play ever built. Everyone will desire to visit this venue."

The new course opened in spring 2018 and has SubAir systems that were installed to the very first time ever in Ireland. The golfing bar, in terms of condition is elevated to a new height and the course has been significantly modified with the help of Fazio Design.

The site was sealed by more than 200 000 tons of sand. fifty miles of drain pipes constructed and fiber optic conduit was placed around each hole for future requirements for television. Overall, there's 135 acres of turf in the area. The course's routing is still intact however the fairways have been improved to make playing surfaces, and to promote the development of fast and firm playing conditions.

The areas that were overgrown have been cleared, and the removal of non-native plants, which allows sunlight and air to improve the quality of fairways and greens and also to open up views of the estate. Greens sites are also elevated and there are now 42 bunkers on the course. A huge credit goes to Atlantic Golf Construction for transforming the course that was once a mess into the stunning layout currently running.

It's still too early to know how the revamp will help propel Adare Manor back up the golf course rankings. Certain golfers will be impressed by the luxurious, high-end the impeccable grooming and service. Others will opt to travel towards the coast to enjoy Ireland's modern and classic links courses. We'll wait to find out if the incredible investment in the heart of Ireland is worth the investment.

Adare Manor will host 2026 Ryder Cup was the July 2019 announcement, however the COVID-19 epidemic caused the 2020 Ryder Cup event at Whistling Straits to be delayed by one year. This means that Adare Manor will host the tournament in 2027.
