The 18-hole layout at AK Bars Golf Resort is positioned on the north bank of the River Volga in Kazan, with holes constructed by the Engo Group to a design by Harradine Golf. The project, led by Michael Harradine from his father Peter and colleague Matt Osborne, involved excavating three lakes to provide enough fill to raise the fairways on the flood-prone site by two metres.

AK Bars
The 18-hole course located at AK Bars Golf Resort is situated on the northern banks of River Volga in Kazan, featuring holes built through the Engo Group to a design by Harradine Golf. The project, which was led by Michael Harradine from his father Peter and his colleague Matt Osborne, involved excavating three lakes in order to supply enough fill to raise fairways of the site that is prone to flooding by two meters.
Because of real estate concerns due to property concerns, only the par 3 17th and the par four 18th are located near the river. The Volga creates the backdrop to the green on the final hole, and bunkers guard the left and front of the putting area and an enormous bailout area on the right. The hole that is the home one is a dogleg to the left, with the fairway running through the river.
Other holes worth mentioning include the 3rd hole, which is par five (meandering between trees that are already in play to make the hole an inverse dogleg) and The par 4 6th (which turns sharply to the left, with the green protected by a bunker to the left, and a lake to the right) as well as the lengthy par five 16th, in which the hole veers from the tee to the green, with lakes to the left, and rolling mounds to the right.

We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
