Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club

Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club opened in 2007 as the first grass golf course in the Oasis City of Al Ain, situated 143km (89 miles) east of Abu Dhabi. Designed by Peter Harradine, the layout originally featured nine holes within the horse racing track before expanding to a full 18-hole championship course in 2010.

Why Play Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club?

Experience desert golf with dramatic Jebel Hafeet mountain views whilst playing the UAE's longest hole at 678 yards. The championship course offers a more affordable alternative to Abu Dhabi and Dubai venues with comprehensive practice facilities.

History of Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club

The facility opened in 2007 under the original name Palm Sports Resort with nine holes routed inside the equestrian centre's horse racing track. Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the course expanded to 18 holes by 2010. The front nine underwent extensive renovation in 2015, reopening in late 2016 with updated design features. The complex now operates as an integrated sports facility combining golf with Olympic-standard equestrian, shooting, cricket and rugby facilities.

Course Layout & Playing Experience

The championship course measures 6,764 yards from the black tees and 6,219 yards from the blue tees across a par-70 layout. Harradine's design features palm-lined fairways, strategic bunkering and water hazards affecting 12 of the 18 holes. The back nine benefits from floodlighting for evening play.

The 10th hole stands as the UAE's longest at 678 yards, requiring precise positioning down the left side to avoid fairway bunkers before negotiating water guarding the front-right approach. The large, undulating green slopes from back to front with subtle breaks throughout.

A nine-hole par-3 Academy Course runs alongside the championship layout, fully floodlit for night practice. PGA professionals operate from the Golf Academy with extensive practice facilities including driving range, short game areas and an 18-hole putting course.
