Played Al Maaden in November 2019 as a group which also played Samanah and Assoufid. Al Maaden gives a great first impression on arrival, with an imposing club house and pro shop.
We organised caddies at £20 each and headed off to the 1st hole, and gentle par 4 introduction to the course. Front 9 dirfts away from the club house and then back again with a nice mixture of holes and the first view of water hazards.
The greens are big and run true. Not as quick as Samanah but certainly a fair test of putting.
Short holes are good with the 5th (maybe 6th) and the 12th being the best. Both over water but will lots of areas to play safe to.
18th is a strange hole with a huge bunker in the middle of the fairway, with two tiny strips of fairway either side. A lucky drive (one aimed down the middle but strays either side), leaves a short to medium iron to the green.
Overall we were very impressed with the course, only downside was speed of play but at just over 4 hours wasnt too bad.
Club house is nice with nice terrace looking over 9th and 10th and food was good.
Would definitely come back to Al Maaden.
