Review:

Aldeburgh is difficult to dislike in anyway at all. In a similar way to nearby Thorpeness, Aldeburgh looks beautiful and golf played here from the spongy turf is a real pleasure. Not an easy course to score well on; the main reason being there are nine par-4's in excess of 400 yards with many pushing 450, so most players will not be reaching these in two shots, you will need a strong chipping game to make a decent score. After the first 10 holes, I felt as though there has been one too many of the same type of hole...long, straight and bordered by gorse - nothing wrong other than some holes were rather similar. I enjoyed the back nine more than the front and this would have been due to the variety of the holes. Here there is a great short par-4 (the 12th) and on the whole just a more interesting set of holes to be honest. In places this is definitely a 5-ball rating but due to my feelings about the front nine and also the fact that there are no par-5's on the course, I have to go for a 4-ball score - it is a strong one though......
