We played the course two days in a row and came away with mixed feelings. The overall condition was average, and for us it didn’t quite justify the $220 price point.

The back nine is easily the highlight. It’s fun, creative, and has some really interesting green complexes, although a few holes can feel a little quirky at times. The 13th was probably my favourite the way the final 40 yards naturally flow into the green is really well done and gives you a lot of options around the putting surface.

The front nine, by comparison, felt fairly ordinary. One thing we found particularly unusual was how strongly the greens seemed to break toward the ocean, sometimes regardless of what we thought we were reading visually. After our first round, we basically started keeping track of where the ocean was and adjusting our reads accordingly. It worked surprisingly well on day two, but it also took some of the fun and skill out of actually reading the greens and made putting feel a little more like guessing how much influence the ocean would have.

There is definitely a lot of potential here, and the style of golf is quite different from many courses we’ve played in Canada. In a lot of situations, the right shot is to use the ground, run the ball onto the greens, and take advantage of the contours rather than simply flying everything to the pin. I really enjoyed that aspect. The downside is that it can also make the course play quite short, as long irons are needed from 3 wood range taking the distance difficulty out of many of the holes.

The practice range is very large and was a nice feature, but the clubhouse and short-game facilities felt underwhelming relative to the price. Overall, the golf experience felt more like a very good $100-$125 course being priced at $220 largely because of its association with the resort.

That said, the hotel itself is immaculate and would probably be the biggest reason we would return. The surrounding town is also beautiful, with plenty of shops and restaurants along the water. By the end of the trip, we found ourselves talking much more about how much we enjoyed the hotel and the town than the golf course itself which stood out to us because golf was the main reason we made the trip.

There is a lot to like here, and with some improvements to the facilities and a price point that better reflects the golf experience, it could be a much easier course to recommend.
