Alresford
Alresford Golf Club can trace its origins back to 1890, when a 9-hole course was fashioned for play. An 18-hole layout was in operation by the start of World War I but half the course was turned over to agricultural use and never recovered after the war ended.
Alternative tees were introduced in 1953 to alter the line and/or length into the nine greens on a second circuit. Finally, forty years later, a new 18-hole layout was opened, using some of the original holes which had their greens upgraded.
The course lies on the chalk downland of Tichborne Down so it enjoys wonderful free-draining properties across this landscape, ensuring it’s rarely ever closed due to heavy rainfall.
Alresford extends to just over 6,000 yards from the back tees, with fairways routed in two retuning nines. The longer outward half has a couple of par threes (at the 2nd and 6th) while the inward half features three short holes at the 10th, 13th and 16th.
