Altorreal

Set in the foothills to the north of the city of Murcia, the 18-hole layout at Club de Golf Altorreal is a mid-1990s Dave Thomas design which is routed around a substantial residential development, with water coming into play occasionally.

The course extends to 6,220 metres from the back tees, playing to a par of 71 (36 out, 35 in), with tree-lined holes arranged as two retuning 9-hole loops that are routed across gently undulating terrain which is eminently walkable for most golfers.

Notable holes include the left doglegging, slightly downhill par five 6th (where the fairway skirts a large irrigation pond to the front left of the green), and the equally tough par five 11th, which plays slightly uphill and right to a well-bunkered green.

The par three holes are also worth a mention: in particular, the 207-metre 8th (played to a shallow green with a protecting bunker in front of the putting surface), and the 149-metre 17th which features an irregularly shaped bunker to the front right of the green.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
