Amarante

First opened for play in 1997, the 18-hole layout at Amarante Golf Club is a short mountain golf course located within the Quinta da Deveza Estate, close to the towns of Amarante and Marco de Canaveses.

The course extends to a mere 5,030 metres from the back markers, with fairways tumbling across a very undulating landscape. No fewer than seven of the holes on the card are par threes and they vary in length from 117 metres (at the 7th) to 171 metres (at the 11th).

A round at Amarante begins and ends with one of only three par fives on the layout: The opener plunges steeply downhill towards a distant blind green whilst the 447-metre home hole is a good deal shorter, offering a closing birdie opportunity, even though it plays slightly uphill to the clubhouse.

Water hazards also play a part in proceedings on a number of occasions: tee shots at holes 8 and 12 are threatened by small lakes and the greens at holes 3 and 17 are both protected by sparkling ponds.
