Golf Club Ambrosiano came about in the early 1990s when a group of golf-minded businessmen near Milan purchased a 150-acre property from the local Noè family, engaging Geoff Cornish and Brian Silva to set out an 18-hole course.
The landscape in this region is rather flat so quite a few small lakes were excavated to provide fill for contouring the holes, resulting in a challenging course where golfers need to negotiate their way around aquatic hazards on more than half the holes.
Stretching to just over 6,000 metres from the back tees and playing to a par of 72, the course is configured as two returning nines, each of which sets out from the clubhouse with a par five hole.
Highlights here include the first of the par threes at the water-laden 3rd; the difficult left doglegging 6th; the tough par four 12th (water runs on the left from tee to green); and the short par four 18th with two bunkers fronting the offset home green.
