Our first day was at Anchorage Golf Course (AGC), 9 miles from downtown. This public course was designed by Bill Newcomb and opened in 1987. Newcomb was based in Ann Arbor, Michigan and most of his golf course work is in that state.
The mid-morning round had an overcast sky, 55 degrees, and 5 to 10 mph of wind. AGC is a small part of a large, heavily-forested park so there is no real estate visible from the course. It is a compact 6,601 yards from the back tees. The terrain is somewhat hilly and all the holes are lined by tall, dense evergreens. Looking east are dramatic views of the nearby snowcapped and massive Chugach Mountain Range (going up to 13,000 feet). There are only 42 bunkers and water comes into play on four holes. A big lake affects play on holes 2, 4 and 5. The greens are medium is size with some movement. A fun course in a nice, quiet setting.

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
