Aquiraz Riviera
The Aquiraz Riviera Resort lies an hour’s drive south of the coastal city of Fortaleza in the northeast state of Ceará. Owned by the Dom Pedro Group which operates the five Villamoura golf courses in Portugal’s Algarve, Aquiraz Riviera boasts an 18-hole Donald Steel-designed layout, comprising the Dunes and Ocean nines.
Holes are laid out as two returning loops and water hazards come into play at several holes on either nine. Extending to 6,975 yards from the back tees, the course plays to a par of 72 (36 out then 36 in), with views of the Atlantic available from more than half the holes on the card.
Highlights include the first of the par fives at the 3rd (where the hole doglegs left after crossing a sizeable lake); the shortest of the par threes at the 14th (with tee shots struck from peninsula tee boxes in a small lake); and the straightforward 18th which plays to a triangular-shaped home green next to the clubhouse.
