A few minutes from downtown Bariloche you can find the first country club in the city, which name derives from the Mapuche term “calm waters”. Located at the beggining of the southern slope of Cerro Otto and on the shore of Lake Gutiérrez, what was formerly a dairy farm and sawmill, has been transformed into a 800-hectare residential development with 60% of its surface remainins as a natural reserve. The housing lots of between 1,000 and 10,000m2 blend with sports such as tennis, squash, polo, golf, kayaking, and windsurfing. In addition to all of it, the country club has also a prime level hotel. The original design of the golf course was in charge of Alberto Serra with the collaboration of Diego Caprile, and it was inaugurated in 1976. Years later, the 18 holes would be completed with redesign and advice from professional golfer "El Chino" Fernández. The course develops in what were formerly grazing pastures and mallines, and is located between 830 and 900 meters above sea level. With views of Cerro Catedral throughout the course, it is made up of 2 visibly dissimilar sets of 9 holes. The first 9 are spread out in a packed way on a surface with moderate height variations and not many trees, as well as wide fairways. The back nine, on the other hand, have differences in height, very narrow fairways, and leafy groves framing each fairway. Also, since the holes are more scattered on the ground, panoramic views tend to disappear. A measured number of bunkers are integrated into the layout, and water hazards add difficulty on holes 5, 7, and 9 (a stream also pairs some holes on the back nine, but without being too intrusive). The greens vary in surface and are usually extremely fast. Although at times the course lacks strategic play, several holes generate interesting drama and are very photogenic. Holes 15 and 16, for example, have incredible views and a natural setting.

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
