Aschaffenburg

Founded in 1977, Golfclub Aschaffenburg impresses with the way its 18-hole course has been laid out to maximize the topography of the location, offering fabulous views of the surrounding Vorspessarts region for good measure, especially on the hillier back nine.

The layout measures just over 6,400 metres from the regular tees, playing to a par of 71, and holes are arranged as two returning nines (the inward half comprising three par threes, three par fours and three par fives with the same par never played at successive holes). Water comes into play at a couple of holes, with a pond to the front right of the green on the par four 5th and a small lake runs to the right of the par three 9th from tee to green.

Holes 2 to 7 lie in a separate compartment to the south of the property, accessed by a tunnel under the dividing road.

Highlight holes include the first of the par threes at the 142-metre 3rd (where two large bunkers protect the front of the green); the left doglegging 419-metre 7th (the only par five on the front nine) which plays to a triangular-shaped green fronted by a long, thin diagonally-orientated bunker in the fairway; and the left doglegging 375-metre 16th (rated stroke index 1) that has a only a small bunker to the right of the green for putting surface for protection.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
