Opened in September 2010 and designed by K.K. Downing, former lead guitarist of heavy metal band Judas Priest, The Astbury is an impressive new parkland course designed to please golfers of all abilities.
In 2018 the course owned and designed by the guitarist of Britain’s biggest heavy metal band was put up for sale due to the golf club and the Georgian stately home being placed into administration. Administrators subsequently placed a share of Judas Priest’s back catalogue on sale before the FCFM Group bought the premises later in the year.
The new owners intend to create a “world class” holiday destination in the Shropshire countryside with tennis and spa facilities. Plans are in place to build around 300 wooden lodges along with a new 9-hole golf course and 18-hole putting green to complement the existing K.K. Downing-designed 18-hole layout.
Currently The Astbury is closed and is scheduled to re-open in spring 2020 post redevelopment.
