I played the course in February 2023. With a high ranking on this page I had high expectations. The dormant grass made the course play very fast.
The round starts off with a short par 5, a short par 3 and a short par 4. The opening stretch has a linksy vibe. Then the scenery changes. Holes 6 and 7 are divided by a lake, reminiscent of south Florida. Overall the terrain is fairly flat (flatter than Norman's earth and fire courses in Dubai) with some man-made hills. Later an artificial creek comes into play between 9/18. Some long holes play into the prevailing wind, making them impossible to reach in regulation for many golfers. My least favorite feature of the course are the dense snake-infested bushes. They are placed too closely to the fairways and on many holes too close to the green. 1 yard left of the green of the par 5 13 and the ball is lost in a bush. They should cut them back. Nr. 14 is my favorite hole: A short par 4 from elevated tees in an oasis setting. 15 is also spectacular. Downhill with a creek to the right but again the bushes left are too close to the fairway. 16 is a bit weak, a short par 3 on a open meadow. 17 is a dead straight par 5. On 18 you have to hit the ball as hard as you can while keeping it in play.
Overall a very good golf course but the potpourri of architectural styles (links, desert, artificial resort hazards) will displease the purist. Add to that the feeling of an incomplete (or failed?) real estate development. The big course might be too expensive to maintain.
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
