Ballykisteen
Limerick Junction, County Tipperary- AddressBallykisteen, Limerick Junction, Co. Tipperary, Ireland
Located in the grasslands of the Galtee Mountains, near the Glen of Aherlow, Ballykisteen Hotel and Golf Resort is a wonderfully relaxing golf retreat set in mature parkland with an 18-hole course laid out on one hundred and seventy acres of a former horse stud farm.
Designed by Des Smyth and opened in 1991, Ballykisteen golf course is only one of the facilities offered to guests of the on site hotel, which also caters for the usual conference, wedding and leisure clientele.
The course is a hefty 6,765 yards long, with water in play at no less than twelve of the holes. Standard scratch is two more than the par of 72 so it can truly be described as challenging! It is laid out in two loops of nine – each finishing by the clubhouse – and has a classic configuration of two par threes, two par fives and five par fours in each half.
Tee boxes are immaculate, bunkers are well tended, many fairways are bounded by stands of mature trees and greens are a delight to putt on – all in all, Ballykisteen is a fine golfing venue.
