Review for Baltusrol (Lower)

Reviewer Score:

Current renovations for the last "Major" - PGA - held at the lower, moved it down a peg. The Upper is considered by locals to be the superior course on property. The lower is harder, most certainly but there is far more charm on the upper. Tillinghast built a rather different but high quality pair of courses here. The land is extremely flat and not very interesting as golf land goes. The history that has occurred at Baltusrol brings it to our attention, but renovating it to withstand onslaught of the most proficient 500 golfers in the world has harmed it for most of the other 50 million golfers. Conditioning is excellent, but greens have been flattened over the years to accommodate very fast green speeds and sadly in the name of "fairness". A bogey to the club for doing so.
