Barcelona (Masia Bach)

Laid out over rather hilly terrain on the edge of the Penedes wine growing region to the north west of Barcelona, the challenging Masia Bach, now called Club de Golf Barcelona, was created by José Maria Olazábal and it opened in 1990, a year before his more well known Sevilla design.

As part of a complex that includes a swimming pool, gymnasium, tennis and squash courts, Masia Bach is considered by many as one of the tougher Spanish tracks to play from the championship tees – though it does have some spectacular views of the Montserrat Mountains by way of compensation for the degree of playing difficulty!

More than 2 million cubic metres of earth were moved to flatten out some of the contours within the 250-acre property during construction but many still prefer to take a buggy when playing here due to the demanding elevation changes during the round. Visitors are strongly advised to warm up on the 9-hole Sant Esteve executive course before tackling Ollie’s main course at Club de Golf Barcelona.
