Barefoot Resort (Love)

The Barefoot Resort has established itself among the leaders in a region crowded with public golf options, and its collection of four courses — crafted by modern architecture standouts and former PGA professionals — are at the base of that success. Davis Love III joins Tom Fazio, Pete Dye, and Greg Norman in creating a design for the resort.

Much has been made about Love being “Carolina-born” when discussing his clubs in South Carolina...never mind that he was born in Charlotte, relative high country compared to the South Carolina low country culture. That said, the setting for his Barefoot course could make anyone seem like a native, winding between the ruins of a southern mansion that used to sit on the property.

Love nods to his true North Carolina roots in the course itself, however, establishing that he sought to emulate the greens and fairways of Pinehurst when designing this Myrtle Beach course. He leaves plenty of room for the weak player to land while challenging the best player to find the proper angle of approach if they’re hoping to score on these flowing putting surfaces.
