Barnbougle dunes course sits on the northeast coast of Tasmania a stunning Tom Doak design, laid out across the natural links land right along Bass Strait. And honestly, it feels like the course was always meant to be there.Barnbougle winds its way through hills and valleys, with dramatic elevation changes that offer spectacular viewsboth out across the ocean, and back down into the holes from different vantage points.Even though it’s a relatively new course in the grand scheme of golf history, Barnbougle has already made a profound impact on golfers worldwide. It’s an ideal destination for a golf getaway, with accommodation available right on the property making it perfect for a full golf resort experience. If there’s one criticism, it’s that Barnbougle can be extremely penal.Miss the fairway, and you’re more than likely losing your ball. The dunes are big, the rough is harsh, and stray shots can turn what should be a fun day into a frustrating oneespecially if you didn’t pack enough golf balls! But if you’re hitting it well, Barnbougle is one of the most rewarding days of golf you can have. The fairways are pristine, the bunkers are deep and bold, and the greens are full of the fun, creative contours that Tom Doak is famous fordesigns made not just for the scratch player, but for the everyday golfer as well.Personally, I think the front nine is the stronger side. You’re walking right along the ocean, and almost every hole feels like it was made for the camera it’s truly breathtaking.
