Founding members of Barquisimeto Golf Club were delighted to have a 9-hole layout at their disposal a year after the club was formed in 1967. Golfers played on this course for more than a decade until Floridian Joe Lee was called in by the committee to fashion a full 18-hole track.
Today, the course measures 6,644 yards from the back tees, playing to a par of 71. More than half the holes on the scorecard are doglegged and, with six of these veering to the left, they offer a distinct advantage to golfers who can shape the ball off the tee.The course hosted The Copa Tres Diamantes – a professional event on the Tour de las Americas – between 2006 and 2009. Two editions of the biennial competition for the prestigious Simon Bolivar Trophy, which involves elite international amateur teams, were also held at Barquisimeto in 1983 and 2009.
