Basel
Basel Golf and Country Club or Golf and Country Club de Bâle to be precise may well be a member of the Swiss Golf Association but the course – known locally as Geissberg – is actually situated a few miles across the border from Basel in the French Alsace Region.
The esteemed golf architect Bernhard von Limburger designed the 6,880-yard course back in 1968 when he seamlessly integrated eighteen holes into the surrounding Alsatian countryside, creating a classic parkland layout.
Only one of the four par three holes on the scorecard is less than 180 yards in length and it just happens to be the signature hole – the 150-yard 7th is played from an elevated tee almost 100 above the level of the putting surface to a green with two bunkers in front and behind the hole.
