Golfing visitors to Réunion can play a trio of courses on the island. There's a 9-hole course at Golf du Colorado near La Montagne in the north and two 18-hole courses to the south; Golf Club de Bourbon in the beach resort of Etang Sale les Bains and here at Golf du Bassin Bleu.
Set out in a country club environment with swimming pool and tennis facilities, the Bassin Blue course was constructed at the end of the 1980s, though all tees and greens were renewed in 2007 during a year-long restoration program that also included the rebuilding of fairway and greenside bunkers.
The property sits a little back from the coast at an altitude of over a thousand feet above sea level with fairways overlooking the bathing resort of Saint Gilles. Golfers are advised to make their score on the outward half as the back nine holes play a lot tighter along avenues of eucalyptus trees.
Arriving at the clubhouse without any equipment what so ever (well, brought a glove from home!), they quickly had me set up with equipment, balls,... etc. I felt welcome from the start.
This golf course has a spectacular view as it sits up on the mountain side. Now, I played a round in good heat alone. There are some beautiful holes, in between. Unfortunately there has been a good time lapse between the review and the actual round. however I do remember it as a good experience, although bunkers were disappointing low quality. One thing is the specific (lava?) sand, but they were just rock hard and not really playable (2019) in my view.
I would surely recommend going here without a doubt. - don't forget sunscreen :)
