Båstad (Nya)

Sixty years after its formation, Båstad Golfkubb called in respected architect Tommy Nordström to design a second 18-hole course for its burgeoning membership and so the Nya (New) course made its debut in 1990.

The Nya course measures 6,069 meters from the back markers (only 50 metres longer than the Gamla) but it plays to a par of 71, as opposed to the 72 of its older sibling. Interestingly, two of the opening three holes on the Nya are par threes (at the 159-metre 1st and 172-metre 3rd).

Highlight holes include the 409-metre 4th (doglegging left past a pond to a small green); the short par four 7th (defended by a cigar-shaped water hazard and three small bunkers at the front of the green); and the 164-metre 8th which plays across a fountained lake to an offset green.

On the back nine, both par threes (at the 180-metre 13th and 151-metre 15th) play to heavily sand-protected greens, while the 510-metre 17th offers a good chance of a birdie, even though out of bounds runs along the right of the fairway and a pond lurks to the left of the green.
