Beacon Hall Golf Club
Beacon Hall Golf Club is a private, 18-hole course contained within a 265-acre site which is located on the Oak Ridges Moraine, a thirty-minute drive north of Toronto. It is a very picturesque setting for a golf course which is complemented with a fabulous Country Club clubhouse.
The course co-exists with a gated community of only 80 residences so peace and tranquility are assured when playing here. Exclusivity at Beacon Hall is further guaranteed by that fact that there are less than 250 members in the golf club so the first tee is usually available for play at any time.
The Beacon Hall course was a design collaboration between Bob Cupp and Tom McBroom and opened for play in 1988. There are two distinct groups of nine holes – the front nine is routed through woodland whilst the inward half is set amid rolling hills with water coming into play at many of these holes. There are four sets of tees at every hole and the total yardage stretches to 7,003 yards from the championship markers.
The contrast between the two loops can be found at the turn when the 9th and 10th holes are played. The 394-yard, par four 9th has an intimidating tee shot across water to a landing area on the tree-lined fairway with bunkers to the left. The approach shot is then played to a green on a hillside ledge with the clubhouse in sight through the trees. The course then opens out as the 586-yard, par five 10th swings slightly right from the tees, descending in a series of level changes to a green with water to the right of it.
