American architect Randy Thompson, a former colleague of Robert von Hagge, has designed a number of top tracks in South American including Buenos Aries in Argentina and Four Season Carmelo in Uruguay.

Belém Novo Golf Club, one of his lesser known projects, can be found within the Terraville condominium, a property development situated less than half an hour’s drive from the centre of Porto Alegre, the state capital of Rio Grande do Sul.

The 18 holes of the Belém Novo course sit on a fairly level site, routed around large expanses of water, with accommodation units bordering many of the fairways. The four par threes here are all testing. Hole 14 is the only one-shotter less than 180 yards in length while the 218-yard 3rd hole is actually rated stroke index 1 on the scorecard.
