Bentwater (Weiskopf)

The Bentwater Yacht and Country Club is the centerpiece of a luxurious community on the shores of Lake Conroe, north of Houston. It features three 18-hole courses: Grand Pines, The Miller, and The Weiskopf. As one can assume from the title, Open Champion Tom Weiskopf was the designer (however his partner Jay Morrish deserves equal credit, even if his name isn’t on the marquee).

The pair wander the property before bringing Lake Conroe into play several times during the back nine. Players will first see that body of water on No. 12, the signature hole, where the more inviting tee shot is to the wide fairway to the left, which will require a forced carry to reach the green. Players can try the tighter, tree-lined corridor on the right for a quicker journey, however.

Both of the par threes on the back side of the course, Nos. 14 and 17, will require forced carry over a cove, while the No. 16 par four will — in most cases — require two inlet carries. Players will be happy to note that the signature Weiskopf/Morrish drivable par four doesn’t feature any water...but the big bunkers near the green don’t look any friendlier.
