Blankney
S.V. Hotchkin doubled the size of the original 9-hole course at Blankney Golf Club just before the start of World War II but little of his work remains following a redesign of the layout by Cameron Sinclair in the late 1980s.
Only four of the original greens remain in play: the old 2nd (now the 1st); the old 3rd (now the 5th); the old 5th (now the 7th); and the old 10th (now the 12th). The other greens were either in the wrong place or deemed sub-standard.
Today’s course extends to 6,638 yards from the back tees, playing to a par of 72, with holes arranged in an old-fashioned out and back fashion. Highlights include the left doglegging 9th and the arrow-straight 14th, both of which are renowned as tough par four holes.
World Top 100 Golf Courses
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
