Located within a massive 720-acre property next to Phuket International airport, the Lakes course at Blue Canyon Country Club opened in 1999, eight years after the unveiling of the Canyon course.
Built on the site of an old tin mine, the fairways of the Lakes layout feature water hazards on all but one of the holes and the course routing makes optimum use of the wandering creeks and water-filled gullies that were formed during the mining years.
The 219-yard 8th is a feature hole on the front nine and it’s played from an elevated tee position across water to a sand-protected green that features a bank of Flowering Allamandas as a rather unusual backdrop. On the back nine, the 200-yard 17th is the only waterless hole on the card, relying on a severely contoured green to protect par. The penultimate hole precedes one of the toughest finishing par fours in Thai golf, where the canyon-fronted home green is rarely ever reached in two shots.
Blue Canyon Country club is located just seven minutes from Phuket International Airport, and close to all of the famous beach resorts on the west coast of Phuket. It is perfectly positioned for the Travelling Golfer!
The Lakes course does not have as much elevation change as the Canyon course, and plays over lower lying land. But lakes in the gullies and gorges are similarly used as a major visual and strategic component of the design.
Whilst the Canyon course is framed by thick jungle, the Lakes course is less heavily treed and more open is some areas. It is also shorter and more playable- hence it's popularity with the punters...
The Lakes course underwent a total renovation in 2006 eradicating some blind shots and generally upgrading the course design as well as the playing surfaces. At the time of our visit it was in better condition than the Canyon course.
The front nine holes is routed through a landscape of lakes and natural canyons, whilst the back nine winds through a plantation of rubber trees. But the constant is water- with approach shots having to carry creeks, or canyons to get home in regulation.
The finishing hole- a long uphill par 4 with an open canyon in front of the green is certainly a great way to finish. A par here will have you enjoying your refreshments all the more...
The Lakes course is a quality course which combined with the Canyon course, Laguna Phuket, Loch Palm & Red Mountain makes Phuket a truly international golfing destination.

In my previous trips to Phuket, I had not managed the time to get on to play at the Lakes Course of Blue Canyon. So in Feb 2020, I did take the opportunity when it presented itself. The Canyon course was not getting the best reviews at the time, so that made it even more compelling. I was not disappointed. The whole site itself is fabulous and some of the design elements keep you interested at all times. The course condition itself wasnt particularly spectacular, but I thought the greens were in good shape. Till the Canyon course gets back into its shape, this may well be the 2nd best golf course in Phuket to play after Red Mountain. Have played the lakes courses on 3 occasions and have enjoyed it. The positive of the lakes course is that golf carts are available on this course compared to the Canyon course.
Excellent layout good greens and fairways where excellent.
My Caddie was very good and after a few holes she had a fair indication of what clubs I would need.
Price at the lakes is very reasonable and cheaper than the Canyon course.
Enjoyable time playing there and the club house is good and friendly staff
