Founded in 1946, Bodens Golfklubb is the oldest golf club in Norrbotten (North Bothnia), but the course in play today at Sävast is a 1992 design by Björn Eriksson. Measuring 6,062 metres from the tips, water comes into play at more than half the holes on the scorecard.

Tree-lined fairways are laid out on a very compact, 95-acre property on the north bank of the Lule River as it makes its way to the nearby Gulf of Bothnia. Arranged as two returning nines, the layout plays to a par of 72 (36 out then 36 in), with holes set around a couple of housing developments.

Highlight holes on the outward half include the first of the par threes at the 153-metre 4th (with a small lake protecting the front and left of the green) and the toughest hole on the card at the par four 9th, where the tight fairway twice crosses a ditch as it veers left towards the green.

On the inward half, there’s a good chance of bagging a birdie at the short par four 12th, provided the large bunkers around the green are avoided. The round then concludes at the 446-metre par five 18th, with the fairway turning right towards the home green, traversing the same water hazard that fronts the 9th green.
