Bondi Golf & Diggers
North Bondi, New South Wales- Address5 Military Rd, North Bondi NSW 2026, Australia
The remarkable history of Bondi Golf & Diggers Club dates back to 1926 when the Diggers Club was founded to pay respect to fallen soldiers. The golf club's short, quirky and fun 9-hole clifftop golf course is set spectacularly overlooking the famous Bondi Beach, harbour and Sydney skyline.
Occupying a tiny sliver of land that extends to less than 20 acres in area, the eight short par threes and one par four hole on the course are somehow shoehorned between the coastal Military Road and the jagged edge of the cliffs that overlook the Tasman Sea. On several holes, because the site is so cramped, golfers must walk in a backwards direction from the green they have just holed out on to play from the next tee position.
Highlight holes on this 1,344-metre track include the 150-metre 4th (played across a small inlet to the green); the par four 5th (with the fairway running along the edge of the cliffs from tee to green); and the 134-metre 9th which returns players to the home green next to the clubhouse.
The club states about its course on its website: “It’s the quickest round in Sydney, so perfect for the time poor. Play your round and still have the day to yourself.” And, regarding choice of golf apparel, the club’s policy is “wear what’s comfortable for you – there are no restrictions on the course.”
