Formed in 1933, Borås Golfklubb is reckoned to be the 15th oldest in Sweden. The club moved to its current location in the early 1950s, where it has since developed two 18-hole layouts, the Norra and Sörra.
Today, the course extends to 6,500 metres from the back tees, with par rated at 72. It’s laid out in an old-fashioned out and back manner, with the outward and inward nines both playing to a par of 36.
Highlight holes include the tough par four 2nd (with the green tucked behind a large water hazard that runs along the left of the fairway) and the 323-metre 8th, with a pond lurking ominously to the immediate right of the putting surface.
On the back nine, the 444-metre 14th is played more like a par five for most golfers as the approach shot has a substantial body of water to carry across a dammed area in front of the putting surface – only big hitters will risk going for the green in two here.
In 2022, Christian Lundin from Henrik Stenson Golf Design was in discussion with Borås and various interested parties regarding the production of a masterplan for the club. It’s thought there may be substantial changes to come once a way forward has been agreed.
