Bro Hof Slott (Castle)

The opening of the Stadium course at Bro Hof Slott Golf Club was subject to intense coverage in the golfing press. The Castle course however seemed to slip below the radar when it opened in 2009.

We think the members quietly count their lucky stars as they get to keep the Castle as their little secret. What luxury to have such an interesting counterpoint to the splendid Stadium course at your home club. The Stadium course might be the tougher of the two with its massive length and demanding design, but the Castle course is no pushover. It’s a thorough challenge for any player.

The Castle course is a mix of forest and open country with a distinct heathland feel. It’s visually pleasing as it rolls along in gentle swells with crisp green fairways surrounded by wavy golden fesque. Unusually for the Nordic region, large waste areas have been incorporated in the design. Some might argue that this is unnatural, but it works well as the waste areas are festooned with humps of grass similar to those found on grazing land in the Nordics – interesting visually, but probably not appreciated should your shot find one of them.

A common statement from members and visitors alike is that the Castle course is more fun to play than the Stadium and although the Stadium is a superb challenge and very enjoyable to play, we can relate to the statement. As a former tour player said, "on the Stadium I think par, on the Castle I can go for birdie".

If you visit Bro Hof Slott Golf Club make sure that you leave room for both the Stadium course and the Castle course on your itinerary, you will not be disappointed.
