Bromborough Golf Club
This is set on what was once the Earl of Shrewsbury’s estate, the original 9-hole layout at Bromborough Golf Club debuted in 1903. The course was extended in 1922 then four replacement holes were introduced due to the impact of local road works fifty years later.
During the 1990s, a decision was made to replace the greens on holes 8 to 12 as these suffered badly after heavy rain. The work proved so successful it was decided to replace all the greens, at the not insignificant cost of about £20,000 per putting surface.
In 2019, a phased project got underway to upgrade all the greenside bunkers using EcoBunker Ltd to edge the sand hazards. At the same time, the irrigation system was improved to allow more efficient watering of the putting surfaces and green surrounds.
Measuring 6,548 yards from the back tees, the course plays to a par of 72, with holes arranged as two returning nines. Highlights include right doglegging par fours at the 429-yard 5th (“The Ridges”) and the 445-yard 15th (“Poplars”), rated stroke index 1 and 2 respectively.

We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
