Broome Golf Club was formed in 1967 as Roebuck Bay Golf Club but changed its name in 1992. Occupying an economical 150-acre property with no formal bunkers in play, the course measures just under 6,000 metres from the back tees.
The terrain is dead flat so it’s an easy walk to get around the layout, and there are no ponds or lakes to contend with, which is always a bonus for most golfers! Many of the holes are narrow, doglegged affairs and bordered by out of bounds or dense bush so a lack of sand and water hazards doesn’t quite guarantee an easy round of golf, especially when considering almost half the greens are raised.
Highlight holes include the left doglegging short par four 2nd; the first (and shortest) of the four par threes on the card at the 148-metre 7th; the long, narrow par four 10th (rated stroke index 1); back-to-back par fives at the 16th and 17th; and the 180-metre finishing hole which returns players close to the homely little clubhouse next to the beach.
