Bury Golf Club started out with a modest 9-hole course at Redvales in 1890 but the property was earmarked for housing immediately after the Great War so Alister MacKenzie was engaged to plan a new course on land further along Manchester Road, this led to the creation of a new 9-hole layout at Unsworth Hall in 1921, with another nine following a year later.

Bury Golf Club started out with a small nine-hole course in Redvales in 1890. However, the property was planned as a housing site shortly following the Great War so Alister MacKenzie was commissioned to design an entirely new course further down Manchester Road, this led to the construction of a brand new layout in Unsworth Hall in 1921, followed by another nine holes one year later. In the present day the course's 18 holes extend to 6,063 yards, with the par set as 70 (37 out and 33 in). It is interesting to note that the front nine has only one small hole, the 169-yard 1st, whereas the back nine is comprised of three par threes, but none of the Par five hole. The most notable holes are the right-hand doglegging par two second ("Hollins Brow") that is rated at stroke index 2; the left-veering par nine ("In Junction") and the extremely small Par three hole 17th ("Tap it O'er") which is a heavily bunkered green that is located just 100 yards from the back tee.
