Calanova Golf Club

Designed by Julián García, the course at Calanova Golf Club is located in the foothills above La Cala de Mijas, with six holes (11 to 16) laid out on the south side of the busy Autopista AP-7 coastal road.

The layout extends to 5,866 metres from the tips, playing to a par of 72, and holes are set out as two returning nines (both of which start with a par five hole). A small lake comes into play between the closing holes on both nines.

The tee shot on the 10th has to carry the same body of water and there’s another small pond set in the middle of the little triangle of holes from the 5th to the 7th, though it really only affects play immediately to the right of the par three 6th green.

Other highlights include a couple of tough, left doglegging holes: the first of these is the par four 5th (rated stroke index 1) and the second hole is the par five 14th which plays to a shallow, offset green with large bunkers protecting the front and back.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
