Calcot Park Golf Club is one of the lesser known designs on Harry Colt’s CV, laid out in collaboration with John Morrison. It’s set in beautiful, undulating parkland and its four short holes are among the best collection of one shotters in Berkshire.

Calcot has so much potential but I have to say I was slightly underwelmed. The facilities are good, driving range, nets, short game area and large putting green. The club house is showing its age and desperately could do with an overhaul. I ate in the club house before my round, food was very average.
The course condition was above fair and the greens very tricky and super quick which provided a great challenge. The layout on the front 9 is quite congested and there is a gathering of greens and tee boxes that feels a bit too much. The back nine opens out and starts with a really nice looking par 3 over the water opposite a lovely old Manor House that looks like its been converted into flats.
It felt like a hard course and all three of us playing didn't shoot particular well so must have been a good challenge. I would go back and play and would recommend others to try it but would say there are many better in Berkshire to seek out first.
The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
