Canyon Farms

Canyon Farms Golf Club is another fine public-access facility that has been constructed on what was once a quarry. The result, designed by the architectural team of Tom Jackson and Tom Kelly, is a roaming route that wanders by lakes where the previous mining operations ensued, as well as featuring dramatic downward tee shots.

The par five No. 14 is perhaps the signature hole, as well as the one that best sums up the title of this course. At 570 yards from the back tees, players will still get a significant boost from teeing off from the top of the quarry, down to a fairway that rides between a stone canyon. The far left of the dogleg is a stone wall that rises 60 feet; although there will be little strategic benefit to it, players can trust that wayward tee shots in that direction will kick back down to the fairway.

No. 18 is another par five vying for the “signature” status, reachable in two with a pair of strong shots, but players will need to carry the aforementioned lake to get home. Although that body of water will be intimidating, the waterfall coming off the back of the back of the green will be a tad more relaxing.

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
