Carlskrona

Situated in a nature reserve bordering the ancient Viking burial grounds at Hjortahammar, the coastal course at Carlskrona Golfklubb has operated since 1953. The initial 9-hole layout was expanded to eighteen holes by Jan Sederholm thirty years later. In recent times, Christian Lundin from (re) Golf has carried out a number of course improvements.

The 18-hole layout extends to a modest 5,579 metres, with par set at 70 (36 out then 34 in). A round at Carlskrona begins in rather unique fashion, with three par threes in the opening five holes (separated by par fives at the 2nd and 4th) which means the first par four hole isn’t played until the tough 369-metre 6th, rated stroke index 1.

Highlights here include the waterside holes at the (left doglegging) par four 7th, the very short par three 15th (played to a peninsula green), and the par four 16th (with water running the length of the hole on the right side of the fairway). The 344-metre 18th ends the round in fine style, doglegging left over a pond towards the home green.

World Top 100 Golf Courses

The latest ranking of the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World serves as the ultimate global golf bucket list. Most members of our World Top 100 Panel are seasoned golfers, each playing 20-30 of these courses annually while travelling extensively over decades to form their opinions on others. We recognise that opinions vary—even among our panel members. Rankings are subjective, and there are undoubtedly 50 or more courses in the UK and USA alone that could easily fit onto this list.
