If there is one word to describe Carnoustie is that it's fair. The course is laid out for you and there are barely any blind shots, which is a bit different from most courses in the area. But just because you see it all, it doesn't make it any easier. Be sure that your game will be tested on these links.
There are several stretches of challenging holes, one midway through the front (Hogan's Alley), and another to end the back (think Van De Velde). Not the prettiest of courses, but true gamers will really enjoy its strategic playability. The greens are relatively flat and always roll true. They also must have the smoothest practice putting green in Scotland, I kid you not!
Excellent course and very enjoyable. Be sure to visit the clubhouse for excellent locker facilities and to see the Claret Jug and Van De Velde's putter. Food is at the hotel seen famously behind the 18th green.
