I played Castle Stuart on consecutive days this October in the most glorious benign weather. The course is interesting and as such tough to judge. It is build on two levels with half the holes along the waters edge and the others on top of the cliff which is quite unique to me, there are panoramic views and lovely golf holes throughout. It is also the scene of my greatest golfing triumph, a hole in one on the signature 5th hole with my Dad. That will live long in the memory. My abiding feeling about Castle Stuart is that it's a wonderful course but lacks the character, charm and interest of older links courses. I also didn't feel like playing half the holes above the other on the cliff was a true links experience.Despite this a thoroughly enjoyable place to play and we'll be back.. You can't give it 6 balls as then what do you give Royal Dornoch?? That truly is heaven.
